BiH Memories Foundation Collaborates with Udruženje Roditelja Hendikepirane Djece i Omladine "Leptir" Srebrenica
At the BiH Memories Foundation, our mission is to create lasting change and uplift the lives of Bosnian children. Today, we are thrilled to announce a meaningful partnership with Udruženje Leptir Srebrenica, an organization dedicated to providing essential care for children and youth with developmental disabilities.
Shining a Light on Udruženje Leptir Srebrenica
The association, Udruženje Leptir Srebrenica, has dedicated itself to providing essential day services and day care for children and youth with developmental disabilities. Established in Potočari in 1998, the organization diligently supports children and young individuals with disabilities across various life aspects, focusing particularly on rehabilitation and independent living skills training. Their comprehensive assistance involves professional support from psychologists, speech therapists, physiotherapists, and numerous dedicated volunteers, offering diverse activities like creative workshops, life skills lessons, sports activities, and more. Their ongoing efforts involve empowering mothers through workshops and courses to accept and raise children with disabilities, while also aiming to engage fathers to support their families more actively.
Operating in Potočari, the organization not only provides rehabilitative services but also ensures meals for children attending rehabilitation, as many families face financial vulnerabilities. For several families with multiple children experiencing disabilities or having disabled parents, the meals offered at the center represent their only decent meal for the day. Covering a territory spanning 72 local communities across municipalities like Srebrenica, Bratunac, Milici, Vlasenica, and Šekovići, their assistance serves 258 members with various disabilities.
Addressing Urgent Needs Together
The organization currently faces a temporary pause in its activities due to financial constraints, lacking funds for essential resources such as fuel, drivers, professional staff, and management. In addition to the pressing challenges faced by Udruženje Leptir Srebrenica, the imminent arrival of January poses a significant setback. The current radiators in the center cannot sufficiently heat the entire space, forcing a regrettable decision - the organization will be closed throughout January due to the inadequate heating. To resolve this issue and ensure a warm and comfortable environment for the children, urgent renovations are imperative. The existing radiators must be replaced with ones double in size, guaranteeing ample heating coverage across the entire facility.
Our Collaborative Mission
We're embarking on a fundraising campaign aimed at collecting the necessary funds to renovate the space and install proper radiators. Our objective is clear: raise the required funds within the first week of January and have the skilled contractors swiftly address the heating issue in a mere 3 to 5 days. This quick turnaround will ensure that the center can promptly reopen and resume its crucial operations for the remainder of the winter season.
